Best Wisconsin Dells Resort For Families With Young Children

Planning a family trip to Wisconsin Dells can be overwhelming. There are so many different resorts to choose from and it’s hard to know which is the best. There’s one resort in the Dells that I never even knew existed until I started researching Wisconsin Dells Resorts specifically for families with young children.

Hint: It’s not a waterpark.

While planning a multi-family vacation over the 4th of July weekend (which is also my daughter’s birthday weekend), I knew we needed something other than the massive waterparks that would be packed with people on busiest weekend of the summer.

Now… I have nothing against the Dells waterparks. In fact, My husband and I got married at one in 2018. But the holiday weekend crowd is not something we wanted to deal with. Especially with all the children in our group under age 5 and just as happy to splash around in any pool without all the glitz and glam of a waterpark.

Luckily, I ended up finding a hidden gem in the Dells where we’ll be vacationing for years to come. It is what I believe is the best Wisconsin Dells Resort for large families with toddlers and young children.

Inside the clubhouse there is a big pool, a kiddie pool with a slide and bubblers, and a hot tub. The pool has a basketball net and lanes for laps. Straight through the doors leading outside the clubhouse is the outdoor pool space. Outside is another large pool with a basketball net, a kiddie pool with a slide, bubblers and a waterfall feature, and a second hot tub.

Since it was a blazing hot summer weekend with no rain, we spent about 25% of the time utilizing the indoor pools and 75% of the time utilizing the outdoor pools.

None of the pools were ever so crowded that you couldn’t move in the water. And the kids never had to wait more than a few seconds to go down a slide. Depending on the time of day, our group was sometimes the only one utilizing a certain pool. It was a stark difference from the well-known water park where we got married.

For a bit of poolside downtime, there’s an array of loungers and tables with umbrellas. There is also a cabana bar to quench your thirst, food available to order from the Spring Brook Bar and Grill, and cabanas for rent.

We rented one cabana for each full day we were there both last year and this year. It was well worth it to have the dedicated space. Since there are only four cabanas, renting one is something my husband does soon after we check-in.

The restaurant is located in the clubhouse and has a multitude of food options, including a coloring page kid’s menu. They serve breakfast on Saturday and Sunday mornings and offer live entertainment on the weekends. There was a DJ hosting karaoke in 2022 and 2023 when we were there.

Other Amenities

In addition, there is a 9-hole par-36 regulation golf course, a game room and recreation center, a fitness studio, and miles of walking trails. Our families enjoyed walks and bike rides around the Spring Brook community. My daughter was particularly interested in visiting the nearby ponds which had many geese.

Here are photos from our family’s trips last year and this year.

When not swimming at the pools, you can likely find us:

  • Making smore’s around the firepit in the backyard of our vacation home.
  • Running around and playing backyard games such as badminton with the net we brought and set up.
  • Playing on the playground.
  • Biking.
  • And going on many walks.

In the years to come, we plan to go fishing, golfing, and rent boats to take out on the lake which is just a short walk away.

Key Takeaways

Choosing a vacation destination for your family comes down to what you want most out of the trip, and for me that’s:

  • Quality time with loved ones.
  • Lodging that fits the size of our multi-family group and is walking distance to the amenities.
  • Large indoor living space and a backyard for downtime away from the amenities and other vacation-goers.
  • A serene, woodsy setting but with a range of things to do to keep the kids entertained for multiple days.

We are so lucky to have found a happy medium of travel distance for us in Illinois and my husband’s family who joins us from Minnesota. We don’t get to see each other often enough, so it’s important that when we do, we are able to enjoy quality time together as a large group.
